Anxiety, depression and other mental health problems are on the rise among teenagers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these problems can be more difficult to manage or they may even become worse. Unfortunately, teenagers’ access to services may be limited and waiting lists can sometimes be long.
Therefore, the Teenage Health Unit at the Goldman Herzl Family Practice Centre is offering free virtual group therapy sessions via Zoom (a secure online platform) to youths between the ages of 13 and 19 who would benefit from psychosocial help.
Psychology interns, supervised by Dr. Perry Adler, Director of the Teenage Health Unit, will provide group therapy in one 90-minute session per week for ten to twelve weeks, with up to twelve teens. Group members will have the opportunity to talk about the problems they face and learn to manage their emotions more effectively – all while connecting with other teens.
Although the date for the first session has not yet been set, the first group could start as early as the end of October, after school hours. To take part, prospective participants will need an electronic device (e.g., cell phone, laptop, tablet, computer) with a camera and access to the internet and Zoom.
Space is limited.
To register, send an email to [email protected] stating that you want to participate in this group therapy.
